Sheikh Youssef Al Qaradawi Denounces Abu Sayyaf In Philippines

by Mohamad Abd ElAti

Doha (Islam Online) - Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Youssef Al Qaradawi has denounced the kidnapping and killings committed by the Abu Sayyaf militia in the Philippines towards civilians and foreigners, asserting that they are not part of the dispute between the Abu Sayyaf and the Philippine government.

Qaradawi, on Friday, in the Qatari capital of Doha, stated that it is shameful to commit such acts in the name of the Islamic faith, saying that such acts produce backlashes against Islam and Muslims worldwide. It is Known that Sheikh Youssef Al Qaradawi supports the rights of Philippini Muslims.

While giving the Friday prayer sermon, Qaradawi spoke of the importance of education in the life of Muslims, stating that educational institutions in the Muslim world should review their educational philosophy in order that it may reflect Islamic values aiming to create pious Muslims good to themselves and non-Muslims as well.

He also said that some proposed solutions to the current peace process in the Middle East that may suggest placing Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem (Al Quds) under the supervision of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC), or under international sovereignty, is unacceptable, and that their political sovereignty has to be respected.

Qaradawi also supported Yasser Arafat's pledge in obtaining Islamic world support in order to regain political sovereignty over the city. He recognized that all Arabs and Muslims have attached emotions to the city, and called on them to do all they could to protect its sovereignty.
