WASHINGTON (AFP) - The death toll rose to five U.S.
sailors after a blast ripped through a U.S. destroyer off Yemen, U.S.
Admiral Vern Clark announced Thursday.
Speaking at a Pentagon briefing here, Clark said the
USS Cole had apparently been attacked by individuals in a small boat
at 5:15 a.m. Washington time (0915 GMT).
But, he said, speaking from a personal point of
view: "I have no reason to believe this was anything but a
senseless act of terrorism."
Navy officials said earlier that 35 sailors had been
injured in the explosion and 10 others were missing.
