CHICAGO (IslamOnline) - A senior Taliban official in Afghanistan said that the differences between his administration and that of Iran's would vanish in the future.
Mulla Abdul Salam Zuaeef, the Taliban's envoy to Pakistan said, "A lot of our mutual differences have [been] removed and now some minor differences are left. However, these will also end in the near future."
Zuaeef, speaking at a press conference, said that despite their differences, Muslims should adopt a joint position on the issue of Palestine.
While answering a question about the Taliban's plan to send an official Ariana Airlines' flight to Baghdad, Zuaeef said that his regime wanted to be the first to break the U.N. sanctions, but that its plans were scuttled by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which did not allow their plane to fly over Iran.
When asked why the Taliban did not utilize the services of Islamic Crescent and/or Red Cross societies to aid Iraq, he said that would have defeated the whole purpose of standing up to the sanctions.
Zuaeef also said that his government has reached an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to operate regular flights between the two countries. He said recently a Dolphin Airlines flight flew into Kandahar transporting some Afghan prisoners and UAE-based undocumented nationals.
He also said that Taliban chief Mulla Omar had recently sent a message to the people of northern Afghanistan asking them to support the Taliban and not to abet Tajik Commander Ahmad Shah Masood against the Taliban.
