By Mo'men Hussein & Kuttb ElArabi MONTREAL & HANOVER (IslamOnline) - The Islamic booth at the Hanover International Expo 2000 came under attack after a hysteric person broke into it and smashed a large framed poster of the Holy Qaba, before security guards were able to arrest the individual.
The German assailant said he committed the act convinced that Islam was the moving force behind the violence against Israelis in the Middle East. Attempts to convince him otherwise by security and Muslims managing the booth failed. The Expo's news briefs and German media ignored the attack and did not report on the incident. Other attacks have taken place in Canada, where Jewish groups attacked the Palestinian House in Ontario in response to various demonstrations and rallies held in Canadian cities protesting the use of force by Israel against the Palestinians. Burning materials were thrown over the window and doors of the House, both Palestinian and Canadian flags were ripped and a note saying "Jewish People Alive" was left on the entrance door. Canadian police are placing the attack under investigation. The Canadian government has denounced the use of Israeli force in Palestinian cities, as the city of Montreal held a second rally in support of the Palestinians. More than 1000 activists, including Canadian human rights activists, joined the Tuesday demonstration, which started from McGill University and marched to the Israeli and the American Consulates. Protestors burned the Israeli flag and chanted against Israeli aggression against Palestinians. |
