by Ayub Khan CHICAGO (IslamOnline) - The Daily Telegraph reported Sunday that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has apparently sent senior intelligence officials to Belgrade to advise Yugoslavia's embattled President Slobodan Milosevic on how to survive the current crisis. The paper also reported, that after Russia and China, Iraq is one of the three countries that might provide safe haven to Milosevic. With close links to Saddam's eldest son Uday, the Iraqi delegation is reported to have arrived last Monday. The delegation comprises of Mohammed Zaman, Minister of the Interior,; Hasan al-Tikriti, Deputy Head of Iraqi intelligence; two senior members of the Ba'ath party and one member from the Olympic Committee, an organization run by Uday to look after his father's security and propaganda . While Milosevic adamantly refuses to give up power after the recent elections in which he is widely believed to have been defeated, his wife is said to be keen on avoiding a similar fate to Romania's Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, who were killed shortly after being overthrown during the 1989 revolution. Milosevic has so far refused any mediation offers to resolve the brewing conflict, including that of the Russians. The Iraqi delegation, which has wide-ranging experience in propaganda warfare and suppressing popular dissent withstanding popular revolts, will reportedly provide similar services to Milosevic. The Iraqi delegation, who traveled undetected into Serbia, could also play a vital role in smuggling the Milosevic and his wife out of the country, and past NATO troops if the couple so decides. NATO troops are under standing orders to arrest Milosevic to stand trial for war crimes. |
