Turkey Urges "Immediate" Implementation Of Sharm El-Sheikh Accords

ANKARA (AFP) -Turkey urged Israel and the Palestinian authority Tuesday to immediately stop violent clashes under the ceasefire deal struck in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

"We believe that the immediate implementation of the accord is of vital importance," a foreign ministry statement said.

"We hope the parties will return to the negotiation table as soon as possible and show a good-will to reach a final agreement," it added.

Ankara also called on "all parties to show the required sensitivity against the provocations of the enemies of peace."

"We see the outcome of the summit as a right step towards ending the atmosphere of tension and confrontation, restoration of calm and efforts for a permanent peace," it added.

Predominantly Muslim Turkey has been Israel's main regional ally since 1996 when the two signed a military cooperation deal, but it also maintains friendly ties with the Palestinians.
