Libya's Qaddafi A Mason Claims Libyan Dissident

CHICAGO (IslamOnline) - The Arabic News reports that Libyan separatist, and former double agent Abdul Majid al-Jae'ika, claimed Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi is a Mason.

Al-Jaeika is the main witness in the trial of the two Libyans who are suspected to be involved in the Lockerbie air bombing case at the Scottish court in Holland.

When defense lawyer Richard Keen asked al-Jaieka, "How did you discovered that Colonel Qaddafi is a Mason?"

He replied that an anonymous person whose identity he cannot disclose for "security reasons" told him that Qaddafi is a Mason.

When Keen questioned al-Jaeika about his comments in the past, like when he told his CIA handlers that he is a relative of the last Libyan King, Idris al-Sanousi, Jaeika replied "this is not correct."

Keen charged, "Mr. Jaieika, you are a liar. Are not you?"

Al-Jaeika replied, "I have never lied."

Al-Jaeika used to work for Libyan secret intelligence in Malta before he offered his services to the CIA in 1988, just four months before the PanAm bombing incident at Lockerbie.

Al-Jai'eka announced on Tuesday that he had seen the two Libyan suspects carrying a Samsonite bag at the Malta airport at the time when the attack took place.

His testimony was seen as damaging to the prosecution due to his often contradictory statements. Defense lawyers repeatedly accused him of lying in order to claim the $4 million dollar reward offered for information and evidence regarding the Lockerbie affair.

Clare Connely, a Scottish legal expert, told the Christian Science Monitor, "If the vigorous cross examination of Giaka ... results in what is clearly important evidence being discounted by the judges ... this will be detrimental to the prosecution case."
