Sattar To Represent Pakistan At Islamic FMs Meeting In Malaysia

ISLAMABAD, June 20 (AFP)-Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar will attend next week's Islamic foreign ministers' conference in Kuala Lumpur, in which Kashmiri leaders will also participate.

The four-day meeting, opening on June 27 under the aegis of the 56-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), will discuss Kashmir and other issues facing the Muslim world, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Sattar will apprise the ministers about the latest developments in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir and Pakistan's efforts to seek a peaceful settlement to the dispute over the Himalayan territory.

The OIC ministerial conference was also expected to adopt a declaration "to reaffirm its support to the cause of Kashmir," the state-run agency said.

Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the prime minister of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, and Kashmiris from the Indian side would also attend the Kuala Lumpur conference.

They are likely to present a joint statement highlighting the "growing atrocities being committed" by Indian forces in Kashmir.

The dispute over the ownership of the state, divided between India and Pakistan, has triggered two of the three wars between the sub continental rivals since their independence from Britain in 1947.

An Islamic movement struggle for an Islamic state in Kashmir in the Indian zone has claimed more than 25,000 lives since 1989.

India accuses Pakistan of fuelling the struggle, a charge denied by Islamabad, which says its support is confined to diplomatic and moral backing to the Kashmiri "indigenous struggle" for self-rule.
