Israeli-Palestinian Blueprint Accord To Be Prepared By Egypt

WASHINGTON (Islam Online) - A "blueprint" of the Israeli-Palestinian peace deal prepared by Egypt, Israel, Palestine, and the United States is to be discussed at any future summit meeting, according to Egyptian ambassador to Israel Mohammed Bassiouni.

According to the AFP, Bassiouni told reporters contacts were in the process "to try to bridge the gaps between the Israelis and Palestinians so they can then prepare a blueprint framework accord…which could help towards the success of any summit."

The last Israeli-Palestinian peace summit at Camp David failed to reach any kind of peace deal between both parties. As a result, U.S. Middle East troubleshooter Dennis Ross will be in the region on Thursday to evaluate the scenario for the next summit.

After a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Musa, AFP reports Bassiouni as saying, "The goal behind Egypt's continuing contacts with the Palestinians, the Israelis and the United States, and various other concerned parties, is to reach a formula agreed on by both sides regarding what was achieved at Camp David."

Bassiouni added that the blueprint would simply be a "single working paper including what was achieved, and ideas on the problem of Jerusalem will be set down."

Bassiouni, when asked about the odds of finding a solution on Jerusalem said that the solution was "simple, because there are terms of reference for the negotiations."

Also, the Egyptian foreign minister held talks on Tuesday with three of the Palestinians' top peace negotiators: Saeb Erekat, Ahmed Qorei, and Yasser Abed Rabbo.

Israel's foreign minister Shlomo Ben Ami has taken to Europe to sell Israel's position on peace talks, and according to the AFP, said he hoped to reach a preliminary accord by early September to pave the way for the new summit.
