U.S. Congress: India Might Be Responsible For Sikh Massacre

By Ayub Hyderabadi

CHICAGO (Islam Online)-Many members of the United States Congress have expressed their apprehension that Indian security might have been involved in the brutal massacre of 35 Sikhs in Chattisinghpora. This came on the eve of the U.S. President’s official visit to India March 20. India had blamed the Kashmiri Mujahedeen for the massacre.

The African American Congressman, Edolphus Towns, a democrat from New York said that “although the news media reported that ‘Kashmiri militants’ were responsible for this incident, the latest information shows that India’s Research and Analysis Wing carried out this brutal and cowardly atrocity.”

Adding “There were over 700,000 Indian troops in Kashmir, [so] how could the persons responsible for these crimes simply disappeared without being detected. What motive would the Kashmiris have to kill Sikhs, who are their allies in the struggle for freedom,” he asked.

Congresswoman Dana Rohrabacher, who is a member of the House of Representatives International Relations Committee, alleged, “The Indian Government’s control of this specific area has caused many Sikhs in the U.S. to believe that the gunmen were RAW agents posing as Kashmiri Militants.”

The pro-independence Sikh organization Council of Khalistan is lobbying for an independent investigation. Congressman Dan Burton, said that he believes that Pakistan doesn’t seem to be in a position to orchestrate a massacre like this thus risking its ties with the U.S. And many members of the Congress have also called for an independent inquiry into the incident.
