MULTAN, Pakistan, Dec16 (AFP) - A group of Muslims torched the house of a leader of the Ahmadia, or Qadianiya, sect. Hundreds of people attacked the home of the sect's leader, Nawaz Ahmed. Police dispersed the Haveli Lakha crowd while Ahmed and his two sons were taken into protective custody.
The attack was triggered by suspicions that the sect, which was once a Muslim group and was then declared a non-Muslim religious minority in 1973, was using Ahmed's house as a religious center. Under the law, the sect is required to obtain prior official permission to set up a religious center.
