Hindus Converting To Islam; Right-Wingers Vow To Reverse Trend
By Ayub Hyderabadi
CHICAGO (IslamOnline) – The right-wing Hindu paramilitary organization, Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh, appealed to Hindus, Jain, Buddhist, Sikh, and Vedic religions to band together to stop the conversions of low-caste Hindus to Islam and Christianity, according to Frontline magazine.
In a resolution passed at its three-day governing council meeting in Nagpur in January, the RSS appealed to the Hindu religious groups to change their "mindset" and open the doors for those who have been converted.
Mohan Bhagwat, a leader of the RSS, told the media that, “After all, even the
Muslims and Christians of today were once Hindus and there will be absolutely no problem in bringing them back to the Hindu fold.” He said that the RSS will step up its efforts to do Hindu missionary work among these communities.
The resolution also strongly criticized Pope John Paul's declaration in India that the Church would target Asia, to make it a Christian continent in the new millenium. It said that the Pope had abused the hospitality offered to him by the tolerant Indian nation.
It was at RSS' urging that the government of India last February ordered a review of the Indian constitution, which drew strong resentment from the opposition political parties. Former Law Minister and parliamentarian of India, Subramanyan Swami, who is a strong foe of RSS wrote in an article that the real intentions of the RSS are to change India into "a state which is a cross between the Taliban and the Vatican."
"According to a draft circulated at the 1998 October conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), an RSS front organization, the following
measures are planned: The present bicameral parliament would be replaced by a three-tier structure. At the apex will be a Guru Sabha of sadhus and sanyasis (read VHP activists) nominated by the president who is elected by a Lok Sabha constituted on a limited electoral college of primary and secondary school teachers, the rolls of which will be prepared by the HRD Ministry and not the Election Commission. All
legislation and money bills will have to originate in the Guru Sabha and be passed by it before being sent to the Lok Sabha. The Guru Sabha will also be the judicial commission to nominate Supreme Court Judges, and impeach them. In between the Guru Sabha and the Lok Sabha, there will be a Raksha Sabha of serving armed forces chiefs and retired soldiers who can decide when to declare an emergency.”
