A letter written to Blair over the weekend by the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), Iqbal Sacranie, says that the Muslim community is
"surprised" about the prime minister's visit to Moscow to meet Putin, who "is responsible for one of the most savage single atrocities since the Second World War."
Sacranie’s letter calls Britain's pathetic response to "Russia's genocidal campaign and war crimes in Chechnya" as not only "loud silence" but "a disturbing collaboration between our government and the Russian leadership."
Sacranie also criticises the alleged collaboration between Britain and the Russian Embassy in London and with the Russian intelligence FSB "to watch British Muslims and inform Moscow about alleged pro-Chechen activists."
The MCB urged Blair to "pursue robustly the very serious concerns" of the British Muslims with Putin.
