Islamic extremists kill four in Algeria
ALGIERS, Oct 31 (AFP) - Four people including two police officers have been killed in attacks blamed on Islamic extremists, press reports said Sunday.
The two policemen were killed, and three injured, on Saturday in Baghlia, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Algiers, in an attack using a homemade mortar, Le Quotidien d'Oran reported.
A cemetery guard was blown to pieces by a bomb in El Marsa, some 200 kilometers (120 miles) to the west, El Watan reported.
In another attack, an armed group killed a villager in Oum Toub, some 500 kilometers (300 miles) east of the capital, and kidnapped another on Saturday. The assailants used chainsaws to destroy some 300 olive trees before fleeing to surrounding hills, Le Quotidien d'Oran reported.
Attacks by armed groups have claimed more than 50 lives in the past 10 days, according to press reports.
On Friday, Islamic extremists belonging to the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) killed 12 members of a family of nomads near Laghouat, 400 kilometers (240 miles) south of Algiers.
They were among some 400 people killed since the July 13 promulgation of a law granting partial or full amnesty to Muslims not guilty of so-called "blood crimes" or rape.
