South African Muslims Protest Indian Involvement In Kashmir
CAPE TOWN, April 1 (AFP) - Several thousand Muslims marched in Cape Town Saturday to protest against the Indian government's actions in Kashmir.
The convenor of the Islamic Unity Convention, Abe Parker, who organised the demonstration, said about 4,000 people participated in the march to the offices of the Indian high commissioner (ambassador).
He said a memorandum calling for the immediate cessation of military and paramilitary hostilities against the people of Kashmir was handed to a representative of the high commission. The memorandum also called for a stop to the torture and killing of people captured by Indian forces in the region.
Parker said the demonstration had been peaceful and the participants had dispersed after the memorandum had been handed over.
