Website for Filmmakers Inaugurated in Cannes

CANNES (AFP) - Small filmmakers and big distributors can now meet over the Internet like everyone else to exchange ideas and do business thanks to a new website launched in Cannes on Wednesday.
The International Film Market (IFM), in partnership with Film Finders and ShowBIZData, began Cannesmarket.com to provide people in the film industry with a powerful cinema search engine and a meeting place for 5,000 professionals from 70 countries.
"Cannesmarket.com allows the profession to meet and create a true interface for the film industry," ShowBIZData President Oliver Eberle said.
The site provides a secured message board with information on thousands of full-length movies and shorts, the opportunity to post homepages for filmmakers wanting to present their work and soon will be equipped to handle online business.
"The site gives people the chance to find partners quicker, especially for shorts, which do not usually have the necessary preparation to find their own distributor," IFM Delegate Director Jerome Paillard said.
The launch coincides with the opening of the 53rd annual Cannes Film Festival, an event running from May 10-21 that puts the spotlight on independent films.
