Tension between the media and the government has been there from the very beginning of the American Republic. Although changes in technology have altered certain aspects of this tussle, the fundamental tension remains the same: The media uses government to sell its product, i.e., information in form of news and entertainment and the government feeds on the press' weakness for photos

The term "Globalization" now conveys the meanings, which in the past were expressed by two contradictory world-views -- modernization and dependency.
