Bosnian Killed, Two Serbs Injured In Weekend Violence In Kosovo

Pristina, Yugoslavia (AFP)-A Bosnian man was killed and two Serbs injured in two incidents in southeast Kosovo over the weekend, while Serb houses were torched in other attacks.

The Bosnian man was shot dead Saturday near the town of Gjnilane, 35 kilometers (20 miles) southeast of Pristina, the same day that two Serb men were hurt in a grenade attack on their home in the town, spokeswoman Susan Manuel said.

Another two Serb houses were torched Sunday in Kosovo Polje on the southern outskirts of the provincial capital after around 1,000 ethnic Albanians demonstrated in the town. Two other Serb homes were burned down the day before in Lipljan, some 20 kilometers south of Pristina, she said.

In the southern town of Dragash, near Prizren, 23 people were arrested after an explosion wrecked a building belonging to a Muslim Slav of the Gorani minority who had been a former police officer and is now living in Serbia, she added.

KFOR peacekeepers also seized an important weapons stash in a dawn raid in an ethnically mixed enclave of the Serb-dominated north of Kosovska Mitrovica, a force spokesperson stated.

Three rocket launchers, a machine gun and a rifle were uncovered in Little Bosnia, scene of violent clashes between ethnic Albanians and Serbs, which have also left several French peacekeepers wounded in recent weeks.

Captain Frederic Beaumont, a KFOR spokesman, said the raid was not linked to a grenade attack in the neighborhood late Sunday, which caused no injuries. Security forces detained four Serbs and two ethnic Albanians following the blast, according to another KFOR spokesman in Pristina.
