Statement by the Chechen Resistance
Maskhadov on the Assassination of Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev
The
following is a statement by President Aslan Maskhadov of the
Chechen
Republic
of Ichkeria [CRI] on the assassination of former president Zelimkhan
Yandarbiyev in
Qatar
on February 13, provided by the Kavkaz-Center
News Agency.

In
the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate!
Honorable countrymen! Brothers and sisters and those not indifferent
to the tragic fate of the long-suffering Chechen people.
Today we witnessed yet another treacherous stab in the back to the
Chechen people who are fighting for their freedom and independence:
the former president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Zelimkhan
Yandarbiyev was brutally and cowardly killed and his 13-year-old
only son was seriously wounded in an inhuman terrorist act in
Qatar
.
I have no doubts whatsoever that the Russian secret services, which
currently spearhead the vanguard of international terrorism, are
directly involved in this perfidious terrorist act. Nonetheless, the
criminal and terrorist Kremlin regime is persistently and cynically
trying to impute this role to the recalcitrant and God-fearing
Chechen people, placing the immeasurably heavy burden of its own
bloody crimes on someone else.
The enemies of the Chechen people are not only ignominiously killing
its heroes and leaders, but are also trying to discredit them after
their death, defame the righteous deeds which they sacrificed on the
altar of the liberation of their homeland from an all-out invasion
by two-legged Russian vandals of the 21st century, as well as to sow
seeds of discord and distrust among the remaining survivors.
Suffice it to mention the dirty rumor which they circulated about
allegedly unshared money, which “gravely offended” Maskhadov. I
am strongly stating once again that such cheap tricks and silly
fabrications cannot divide the Chechen resistance or set its leaders
against one another. It is about time to realize this. We learned
the habits of our historical enemies perfectly well long ago, and we
have developed a durable and life-long immunity against them.
Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev stood at the origins of Chechen statehood. |

Zelimkhan
Yandarbiyev stood at the origins of Chechen statehood; he was my
trusted friend and staunch associate in the struggle against the
inhuman Russian empire. For a long time he was my personal envoy and
plenipotentiary representative of the CRI in Muslim states, and in
this capacity he accomplished many useful and necessary missions for
the CRI and its people.
The heroic death of Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, as well as the death of
our first President Dzhokhar Dudayev in 1996, has united the brave
and uncompromising fighters for the freedom and independence of the
Chechen nation even more strongly. This terrorist act will
reverberate in Putin's
Russia
again and
again. And I say this with full responsibility.
This
terrorist act will reverberate in Putin's
Russia
again and again. And I say this with full responsibility. |

The
all-out invasion, state terrorism, genocide, ecocide and numerous
war crimes committed by the Russian government against the civilians
of Ichkeria, who have been held hostage by the Russian soldiery for
five years now, are causing among the ranks of the Chechen national
liberation movement a feeling of rejection and profound antagonism
towards the Kremlin's terror and its dirty methods of dealing with
undesirables. And this terrorist act is a link in this inhuman
chain. We see how almost on a regular basis
Russia
itself is
shaken by monstrous terrorist acts, whose organizers are at the KGB
headquarters in Lubyanka.
The official authorities of the CRI will conduct their own
investigation of the circumstances of death of the former president
of the CRI, Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev. I hope that the Qatari
authorities will bring the investigation of this ignominious and
cowardly terrorist act to its logical end and will justly punish its
organizers and perpetrators no matter what. We, on our part, are
ready to cooperate in any form that the Qatari side might consider
to be appropriate and useful.
On my direct order, measures are already being taken which will
prevent in the future similar perfidious acts against Chechen
leaders by Russian secret services.
The Chechen resistance has enough forces, means, and willpower to
continue its fight for the freedom of the Chechen people until the
territory
of
Chechnya
is liberated
from the Russian invaders and aggressors. We have confirmed this
every day for the past 10 years by our selfless and heroic
resistance to the massive and cruel colonial monster of the empire,
as well as by the 400-year history of this struggle.
Chechens deserve freedom, and we will win it without fail; the only
question is how much more human blood will be shed until the Kremlin
finally realizes that it must engage in real political dialogue with
the Chechens, rather than in a policy of state terrorism and vile
assassination of their leaders.
Chechens will never accept the language of force or the ambitions of
Russia
’s imperial
policy. Only the civilized legal experience of mankind in resolving
disputes and starting a negotiating process will immediately save
Russia
from the
abyss of chaos into which it is rapidly falling, pushed by the
incumbent regime, with unforeseen consequence for both the Chechen
and Russian people.
Today's terrorist act, committed by Russian secret services against
Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, fully confirms all of this.
I express my most profound condolences to the family, relatives and
loved ones of my glorious comrade-in-arms and associate Zelimkhan
Yandarbiyev, as well as to the entire heroic Chechen nation, which
has lost one of its most prominent and worthiest sons!
Dear countrymen! We believe that justice will prevail and that this
bloody terrorist act will not remain unpunished!
May the grace of Almighty Allah always be with you!
God is Great!
President of the Chechen
Republic
of Ichkeria
Aslan
Maskhadov
