Bush in South Africa? My, What Fools We’ve Become!

By Ebrahim Mohamed

Anti-Bush graffiti is now visible in the streets of South Africa.

Yeahaah! As if in typical Western fashion, the Bush entourage (Billy the kid and his men) have decided to visit  Africa . The West has become too small and unsophisticated for this new-age cowboy to wield his pea-shooter, so now he has to come to  Africa to show us what he is really made of.

If anything, we as South Africans can learn from our past President, the honorable Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, that diplomacy is the child of steadfastness. Mr. Mandela has stood his grounds regarding the issues surrounding  America ’s whim to extend the claws of its empire.  South Africa and its people will not bow to the pressures of the West’s latest slogan: “Either with us or against us.” This is a bullying tactic that infringes on every democracy in the world.

Bush has found a new democracy in his election, being voted in by only 10% of the population of the United States and now he intends on exporting this new-found, mouth gagging false script to every nation in the world where America shares a vested interest. His idiotic speeches are not enough for the world to realize that he is a clown dressed up as the lion tamer, nor has his two wars in  Afghanistan  and Iraq  let enough blood, but now he has to come to  Africa to enforce the “American way.” My, what fools we’ve become!

Africa ’s heritage extends far beyond that of the Western cowboy judicial system of being unaccountable and above the law. I admire my country, I still do. Whatever we started as a democracy has now developed, and continues to develop, into one of History’s landmarks: A Democracy aimed at fulfilling the needs of its people. It’s a sad day when we have to host a leader like Bush who’s sole purpose to visit our beautiful country is to erode and wash away what we’ve taken so long to establish.

I know that diplomacy often calls for some of the leaders of the world to call a “spade” a “broom,” but in the face of this man allow me to call a “spade” a “spade.”

I fear for the world when a cowboy, wielding that much authority, holds us at ransom and fills his pockets and rides off into the sunset shooting his pistol and claiming stardom. The only place for Bush is in a comic novel which I hope one day our kids would read along with our treasured books of history. He’s not worthy enough to be in them.
