As
Ramadan is approaching, many of us will be getting ready to make the
most of this glorious month. But for many women, however, Ramadan means
spending more time in the kitchen. Many women spend hours daily
preparing big meals. More emphasis is placed on cooking than on
praying. In many cases, women are busy frying food after `Asr. Some are
so busy that they almost miss their Prayers. What a loss and what a
shame! We know that the time between `Asr and Maghrib is especially
conducive for worship. The worst thing in all this is that the women are
reluctant to change their eating and cooking habits during this month.
As women, we are the mothers who are responsible to instill values in
our children, and we should remember that Islam teaches simplicity. Many
are very far from this spirit of simplicity and moderation. We are
more cultural than religious.
I
strongly feel we should review our priorities for this holy month. I
would be grateful if your team could touch on this issue which defeats
the whole purpose of fasting, I think, there is a need for change
in many cases.
May
Allah help you in your endeavor to shed light and may He
reward you.
