Peace Be Upon You, O Ramadan

Oct. 03, 2005

Last year I lost a friend who is to me very dear

He left and told me he would be back in a year

As he walked away I was not sure if I would still be here

When he returns as death to me is so very near

O Ramadan, I am not sure if I will ever see you again

But to God I do pray

That with you I get to spend another day

My dear friend I miss you indeed

I miss fasting in the day of you

And praying in the night of you

You take so long to arrive

And your stay goes by as fast as a blink of an eye

I am eagerly awaiting your arrival

And I miss you even before your departure

Throughout the year my heart is getting harder and harder

But when you are here my heart burns like wood on fire

When you arrive you make my eyes tear

And you leave before the tear rolls off my beard

O Ramadan, you bring moisture to my eye that has been dry all year

When you leave my heart is so full of fear

Not being sure if my good deeds were accepted and my sins wiped away

By Allah Who covers them from the eyes of people throughout the night and day

You’re a month that brings with it overwhelming mercy

The doors of my heart are open waiting for you to come in

As I am in dire need of the forgiveness you bring

As I am a human that is so weak and full of sin

Ramadan, I love you indeed with every sweet moment you put me in

I pray that I meet you on the Day of Judgment when you will push me in

The Paradise that Allah has promised those who fast just for Him

Peace be upon you, O month of fasting

Peace be upon you, O month of praying

Peace be upon you, O month of crying

Peace be upon you, O month of Qur’an

Peace be upon you, O month of Ghufran

Peace be upon you, O month of Qiyam

Peace be upon you, O month of Iman

Peace be upon you, O month of Ramadan

O Allah, let us live until Ramadan

O Allah, let us use its time reciting the Qur’an

O Allah, let us leave it with Your Ridwan

O Allah, let us leave it with Your Ghufran

Ameen bi Rahmatika, Ya Arham ar-Rahimeen
