Israel Blows Up Mosque’s Gate, Besieges Church of Nativity

Franciscan priests and Catholic nuns pass by Israeli army soldiers who have closed off Manger Square during three days of army operations and curfew

WEST BANK, November 24 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – The Israeli occupation forces forcefully entered an old mosque in the city of Tubas in Jenin, in the northern section of the West Bank after placing it under siege.

It claimed that there were wanted Mohammad Al-Qilani, of the Islamic resistance movement Jihad inside the mosque, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

The Qatari-based Al-Jazeera satellite channel said that the occupation forces blew up the mosque’s main gate and used the imam as a human shield as they widely searched the entire area inside.

Eye witnesses said that the forces did not find what they were looking for inside the mosque. Israeli has imposed a curfew for the third consecutive day in Tubas which has been reoccupied by the soldiers.

Meanwhile, Christian leaders said that the Israeli occupation forces has placed a heavy siege around the Church of Nativity on Sunday morning and stationed 20 of it's soldiers inside, stopping the residents from praying inside the church and to hold mass, celebrating a religious occasion.

Eyewitnesses reported that the army spread its forces around the church and that the tanks were less than 20 meters away from the church’s main gate.

Meanwhile, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erakat told Egyptian radio station “Sawt Al Arab” that the occupation of the West Bank will not bring peace and security to the Israeli people.

“Violence will only breed violence,” Erakat said adding that returning to the political modes of negotiation is the only path to bring peace to the region.

In another development, a 70-year-old Palestinian man died Sunday after he tripped and fell while fleeing Israeli tank fire at the entrance of the reoccupied northern West Bank city of Nablus, medics and witnesses said.

Ahmed Shteyeh, 70, was trying to travel via Nablus from his village of Salem in the north to Tel, south of the city, to visit his daughter when an Israeli tank opened fire on a Palestinian crowd trying to enter the city, which is under strict curfew.

Shteyeh fell while fleeing the fire, hitting his head and dying shortly afterwards of his injuries, the same sources said.
