STOOCKHOLM,
October 25 (IslamOnline) - The streets of the ancient Swedish
city of Uppsala are gearing up for the biggest demonstration, to be
staged Saturday, October 26, protesting U.S. war threats against Iraq.
The
demonstration organizers circulated leaflets and invitations among
passer-bys in the streets, days before the scheduled time of the
protest.
"Stop
the projected U.S. war against Iraq. All Swedes are against the war on
Iraq. No to the U.S. world policy. U.S., Out of the Middle East,"
read the demonstration leaflets.
An
official in the Palestinian People Society told IslamOnline
correspondent Friday October 25, that this demonstration will be the
biggest of its kind.
Protestors
will demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian struggle to restore
the usurped Palestinian rights, harmed by the pro-Israel U.S. policy,
he stressed.
In
addition to the Swedish leftist party, the other societies are
co-organizing the demonstration including Al Quds Palestinian
Club, The Swedish-Copan Society, Arab Cultural Club, the Palestinian
People Society, the Iranian Intellectuals Movement, the Yugoslav
Society, the Women for Peace Movement and other Arab and Islamic
societies.
Representatives
of the societies huddled together in Al Quds Club in Uppsala to
discuss the details of the demonstration.
They
agreed on the need to lambaste the U.S. and its policies worldwide and
particularly in the Middle East.
The
organizers obtained an official permit from the Swiss authorities
which consider demonstration as a legal right to every Swede or a
legal resident in the country.
A
number of speakers are expected to address the demonstrators on the
repercussions of the U.S. policies on world countries.
