CAIRO,
September 9 (IslamOnline) - The representatives of nationalist popular
and political forces, workers unions and professional syndicates in
Egypt gathered Monday, September 9, in the headquarters of the
Egyptian lawyers syndicate to launch a campaign of resistance against
the U.S. administration's planned aggression on Iraq.
The
ceremony of launching the campaign entitled "Popular Campaign Of
Resistance Against U.S. Aggression On Iraq" was attended by many
public and political figures in addition to members of the Egyptian
parliament.
"As
we announce the launching of this popular campaign, we urge the Arab
people to participate with all their energy in its activities, which
we will announce sequentially. If all efforts to avert aggression
fail, we can expect that popular action will escalate and threatens
U.S. interest throughout the Arab lands," said the press release
issued by the campaign organizers.
"We
recognize that the monumental danger of such aggression does not
threaten Iraq alone, but extends to the entire Arab nation, presently
and in the future. This campaign emanates from our sense of
responsibility to defend and protect our national security and
interests," it said.
It
added that the aim of U.S. aggression is to use Iraq as a launching
pad to fragment and dominate the Arab nation and undermine its future.
The (U.S. President George W.)Bush administration's goal is to divide
Iraq and transform it into a U.S. protectorate by installing a puppet
regime that promotes global corporate interests.
Participants
presented their different points of view concerning the role of Arabs
in case the U.S. launched its attacks against Iraq.
Some
wanted to mobilize the public in all Arab countries to demonstrate and
even try to break into U.S. embassies in their countries as soon as
the U.S. attacks Iraq, while others preferred to send representatives
from all Arab countries to Baghdad to convince Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein to allow weapons inspectors in Iraq.
The
return of weapons inspectors to Iraq will not stop the Americans from
attacking Iraq, said Mostafa Bakri, editor in chief of Al Osbo'
newspaper, adding that it is better therefore to keep the spies out of
Iraq.
"If
America is attacking Iraq for alleged intentions to develop weapons of
mass destruction, why are the Americans not bothered that Israel has
200 atomic bombs in Tel Aviv with which it threatens the security of
all its neighboring Arab countries," asked Ambassador Mohamed
Wafaa Hegazy, former assistant of Egyptian foreign minister.
"The
U.S. administration is keen on using its control over Iraq to impose
an American-Zionist "solution" of the Palestinian problem.
To ensure the U.S. absolute control over the entire Arab nation, the
Bush administration will impose its strategic ally, Israel, as the
regional power," the release said.
Participants
also said that "our struggle against the aggression is also a
struggle in defense of noble human principles and values embodied in
the UN charter, it is also in defense of international legitimacy,
which the U.S. is attempting to negate. Moreover, it is in defense of
the honor, future and rights of the Arab nation."
