WEST
BANK, July 19 (IslamOnline & News Agencies)- Renowned West Bank
Jewish rabbi, Shlomo Avinar legitimized the execution of Israeli
soldiers who refuse to serve in the Palestinian occupied territories
and demand an end to Israeli occupation, news agencies reported.
Al-Quds
Press news agency cited an article the Rabbi wrote in “With love
& Belief” magazine: “We are in war time. we don’t have to
let divisions prevail in the army.” Then he threatened those who
refuse to serve in the Israeli occupation army.
Avinar
listed examples from the Bible of Jews who were killed for their
betrayal of their military leaders.
“We
have another traitor. And the leader has authority to kill him in case
of urgent necessity. And if necessary the leader is allowed to execute
him.” Avinar said clarifying that he didn’t mean that person must
be killed but he meant the murder of that person is an allowed
measure.” The decision is up to the leaders of the army” he added.
Meanwhile
, Rabbi Neftali Tsfi, head of “Fologen” religious institute said:
“Every one who weakens the army deserves death because he perils the
whole nation.”
In
contrast,52 Israeli soldiers published
an advertisement in the Israeli papers on January,2,2002
announcing their rejection of enrolling in the army and of killing
Palestinians in the
occupied lands.
Later,10
thousand Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv on February,9,2002 with an
invitation from 28 leftist and peace organizations to support the
Israeli officers who refused to serve in the occupied lands. That demonstration was the largest
protest action since the beginning of the Palestinian uprising. In
that demonstration 500 soldiers and officers signed a petition named
“petition of soldiers 2002” in support of the soldiers who refused
military service in the Palestinian lands.
