OSLO,
July 12 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - The youth wing of Norway's
main opposition Labor Party has filed a court action against Israeli
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon accusing him and other Israelis of human
rights abuses, the group announced Thursday, July 11.
"There
is proof that the Israeli army has committed murders and destroyed
property," Eva Kristin Hansen, head of the Norwegian Labor Youth
told the public radio and television network NRK.
Asked
whether she was optimistic regarding the chances of success in the
case, Hansen said it would have been "more naive" not to
have tried "when you see what's happening" in the Middle
East, Agence France-Presse (AFP) said.
The
organization filed the action Wednesday, July 10, saying in a
statement that Sharon and other Israelis should be held responsible
for the murders of civilian rescue workers and other civilians in the
Palestinian territories.
The
case had been presented to Norwegian state prosecutor in an individual
manner by the young activists and had been done without consulting the
parent party, the group said.
The
Norwegian action follows similar court proceedings which have been
launched against the Israeli prime minister in Belgium and Sweden, AFP
said.
Many
previous lawsuits have been files against Sharon in Belgium and Sweden
for his war crimes such as the massacres committed against
Palestinians in Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in 1982 in Lebanon.
However,
the Belgium court did not accept the lawsuits presented against the
Israeli Prime minister by a number of Palestinians, who then commented
that the court refusal gave the Israeli Prime Minister the green light
for his current military atrocities against the Palestinians.
