Hamas Vows To Continue Martyr Operations As Long As Occupation Remains

Shaath: Powell’s visit must at least lead to Israeli pullback from Zone A

DOHA, April 14 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – The Palestinian Resistance Group, Hamas, vowed Sunday, April 14, to continue anti-Israeli martyr operations as long as Israel continued occupying Palestinian territories, news agencies reported.

"We cannot stop these operations as long as the occupation lasts," Hamas spokesman Mahmud Zahar told Qatar's Al-Jazeera satellite television, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).

"The continuation of these operations is a legitimate need... to teach the occupation forces some lessons after their crimes" in the West Bank," Zahar said, adding that those who carry out the operation are “heroes”.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army inspected and tidied up Saturday night, April 13, around besieged Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's West Bank headquarters in Ramallah, preparing for U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell's visit to the isolated leader on Sunday, Palestinians said.

Bulldozers removed smashed skeletons of cars, crushed by Israel tanks, said Rashid Hilal, who works for official Palestinian radio. Hilal has been trapped inside Arafat's compound since Israeli tanks first rolled into Ramallah on March 29.

Arafat has been surrounded by Israeli troops since they smashed their way into his compound 16 days ago.
