JAKARTA,
April 9 (IslamOnline) - The daily anti-Israel protest continued in the
streets of Jakarta on Monday, April 8, with protesters rallying in
front of the U.S. Embassy in a move against Israeli incursions in
Palestinian territories, news agencies reported.
The
group burned makeshift Israeli flags in front of the U.S. Embassy on
Medan Merdeka Selatan Street in Central Jakarta, El Shinta, a
local radio station reported according to the Indonesian daily
newspaper, The Jakarta Post.
Security
personnel were in force in front of the iron fence, the report said.
The
group urged the United States to intervene and stop Israel's
aggression toward Palestine. The daily protests has see as much as
5000 people rallying on Sunday last, urging the Indonesian government
to take stronger steps to force the world community to take actions
against Israel.
The
Indonesian government has strongly condemned Israel's recent
operations, particularly the occupation of Palestinian President
Yasser Arafat's West Bank headquarters in Ramallah, which resulted in
the deaths of five Palestinian security personnel and one Israeli
soldier.
Indonesia,
the world's most populous Muslim country, does not have any diplomatic
ties with Israel.
Former
president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid, an acquaintance of
Nobel peace laureate foreign minister Simon Perez had tried to build
ties with Israel but the plan was strongly denounced by most Muslim
elements here and subsequently failed.
Wahid
engaged Henry Kissinger, former State Secretary in the U.S. as an
adviser to oversee the troubled province of Aceh. Wahid is said to
have followed Kissinger’s advice on Aceh, disallowing them a
referendum for independence.
Indonesia
is the largest Muslim nation on earth, with a population of 212
million 85 to 90% of which are Muslims.
The
two most influential Muslim groups in the country the Nahdatul Ulama
(NU) and the Mohamadiyah has both condemned Israel but has also been
silent on actions Indonesia should take to force the Jewish state to
stop its aggression.
Indonesians
are continuously enrolling themselves to fight a “Palestine Jihad”
against the Jews, some political organizations told IslamOnline.
On
the other hand, white doves were set free by protesters during
Monday’s peace campaign against the Israel's ongoing aggression in
Palestine and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's West Bank
headquarters in Ramallah.
The
non-government organization, along with women and children, staged a
protest in front of the U.S. Embassy in Central Jakarta on Monday,
demanding the United States take firm actions to stop the violence.
Meanwhile
in Kuala Lumpur, the Party Islam Se Malaysia (PAS) is staging a
massive protest for this Friday, April 12, expecting 5000 protesters
to rally in front of the U.S. Embassy.
Police
said it will take necessary precautions to prevent any violence during
the rally, which the PAS is organizing with the help of other
organizations in Kuala Lumpur.
