Palestinian Endurance Reflected In Tears Of Hungry Children

This family’s children have gone without milk and food because of the curfew imposed by the Israelis in Ramallah

By Ahmed Al Bedeiry, IOL Ramallah correspondent

RAMALLAH, April 7 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – Days in the besieged West Bank city of Ramallah pass as if they were years. The nights are so dark and gloomy, and the mornings are quiet and scary. It has become a city of ghosts where no cats or birds could be seen anywhere. Only Israeli tanks could be seen everywhere.

The city witnessed four terrible days without a drop of water or electricity. Palestinians are completely deprived of their freedom. The only sounds that can be heard in the city are those of the raids and Israeli shootings.

The few houses and buildings that were not occupied by Israeli forces have become collective prisons for Palestinian families that have become hostages to these unbearable circumstances.

Israeli occupation soldiers shoot at anything moving without discrimination.

The true endurance and suffering of the Palestinian people was revealed after the curfew imposed ten days ago was temporarily lifted in this city. They are dying of hunger and thirst. What can a population whose president is under siege do, other than run to get milk or food for their children who are suffering from malnutrition and dehydration? However, nothing can be found. Even pharmacies and hospitals lack medicine.

Nevertheless, two hours after the curfew was lifted, the city returned to its fearfully quiet state, where only the sounds of the Israeli tanks can be heard. Ramallah, which is only twenty minutes from Jerusalem, is now completely destroyed and in ruins. The citizens have lost all feelings of safety and security due to the Israeli terrorism. These feelings of excessive fear are definitely reflected on the children who will suffer from these insecurities for a long time to come.

Moreover, the current oppressive policies of the occupants make every Palestinian civilian or member of the Palestinian Authority, wanted by the Israelis. This becomes especially evident during Israel’s barbaric attacks on Palestinian houses and buildings in which they destroy everything in their way.

The sad events taking place in Ramallah are indescribable. Pregnant Palestinian women deliver while on the phone with the gynecologist Salwa Al-Khateeb who has helped in delivering the babies of five women via phone. Palestinian men are abducted and severely tortured. They are forced out of their houses in the middle of the night and are ordered to strip naked in the cold and rain.

There are more stories of massacres and crimes, such as that of the Palestinian wives whose husbands were shot dead by Israelis as they were searching for food.

Palestinians feel that this Israeli occupation will not end so long as the world remains silent to the atrocities of these terrorists. However, they will never submit or give in to the occupation force, not even if their children die of hunger.
