AMMAN,
March 31 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – The ongoing Israeli
aggression and escalation of violence was strongly condemned and
criticized by world leaders and diplomats Sunday, March 31, who
threatened to take measures against the brutal occupation force.
Jordanian
Foreign Minister Marwan Moasher summoned the ambassadors of the U.N.
Security Council's five permanent members Sunday, and demanded the
immediate dispatch of international forces to the Palestinian
territories, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.
"I
officially informed the ambassadors of the five [countries] that
Jordan is demanding the immediate dispatch of an international
military force, under U.N. control, to the Palestinian
territories," Moasher said.
According
to the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera satellite channel, Jordan also
threatened to freeze diplomatic ties with Israel if it continues to
occupy the Palestinian-ruled areas. Along with Jordan, Morocco also
called for an immediate Israeli withdrawal from Ramallah.
Following
the serious developments in the Palestinian territories, King
Mohammed VI, chairman of Al-Quds Committee, held phone talks with
King Abdullah of Jordan over the dangerous and serious Israeli
military escalation in the Palestinian territories. King Mohammed
also held a meeting in Beirut with Lebanese president, Emile Lahoud,
acting chairman of the Arab summit.
Jordan
reportedly held talks with Egypt and other Arab countries to study
their option of freezing ties with Israel and taking other similar
measures to avoid any Israeli regional threat to peace and
stability.
Jordan
and Egypt have both signed peace treaties with Israel and have
embassies in the Israeli capital, Tel Aviv.
The
Islamic World League denounced the Israeli attacks on the
Palestinian people and called on the international community to work
for halting the state's terrorism conducted by Israel against the
Palestinian people.
In
Beirut, thousands of Palestinians and Lebanese Friday demonstrated
in solidarity with the Palestinians in the occupied territories,
denouncing the unlimited U.S. support for Sharon's terrorism.
Egypt
has urged the United Nations Human Rights Commission to denounce the
Israeli human rights violations in Palestine, the Syrian Golan
Heights and Lebanese Shebaa Farms.
These
remarks came in Egypt's statement which was delivered by Egyptian
Chief Delegate to the U.N. in Geneva Ambassadress Na'ela Gabr at the
58th session of the U.N. Human Rights Commission.
Israel
is committing flagrant human rights violations in the Palestinian
lands, breaking all international humanitarian laws, according to
the Egyptian statement.
The
Israeli policies and practices are exposing Israel's pretexts of
defending itself, according to Gabr, who wondered what kind of
self-defense was that which allowed the killing of children and
shelling of residential areas and schools.
The
Israeli practices are not self-defense but full-fledged war between
the occupation forces and Palestinians resisting the occupation,
said Gabr.
A
European diplomatic source said that the Spanish foreign minister
Jose Maria Aznar, whose country is assuming the current presidency
of the European Union, phoned Palestinian President Yasser Arafat
and informed him that the E.U. is embarking on formulating a strong
statement condemning the Israeli attack and calling for immediate
Israeli withdrawal from Ramallah.
In
Paris, the French foreign minister criticized the Israeli tanks
breaking into the Ramallah, stressing that the solution will not be
through bombardment and threatening. He called on the Israeli
occupation forces to pull out from the areas in re-occupied, warning
that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's policies will be
conducive to a deadlock and the escalation of conditions.
Earlier
France has called for the immediate halting of the catastrophic
military acts and honoring Arafat's safety and security.
For
its part, the German government expressed its great concern over the
developments of events in the occupied Palestinian territories and
called on Israel to halt the escalation.
The
Greek foreign minister George Papandreau condemned the Israeli
aggression and statements made recently by Sharon on the Palestinian
Authority. He said that the dramatic condition in the occupied
Palestinian territories requires dynamic initiatives by the
international community.
Regarding
his visit next week as a delegate for the E.U., Papandreau said that
this visit is not confirmed because of the atmosphere of war created
by Israel.
In
Stockholm, the Swedish foreign ministry Anna Linda said in a
statement issued Friday, March 31, that what happened can not be
accepted and that any attempt to destroy the Palestinian leadership
is not accepted by the international community and this will only
result in further losses and instability for Israel.
She
added that she was horrified when she heard Sharon's statements in
which he vowed to revenge the Palestinian people.
Switzerland,
on the other hand, called for complete and immediate withdrawal for
the Israeli occupation army from Ramallah and ensuring Arafat's
security and safety.
Meanwhile,
some 600 people of European peace partisans arrived Friday, March 29
in Ramallah to express their solidarity with the struggle mounted by
the Palestinian people against the Israeli occupation.
They
are part of hundreds of Europeans who came to Israel at several
shifts from France, Italy, Britain and Switzerland on March 24 in
civilian missions in order to protect the Palestinians.
The
Israeli occupation forces threatened the European peace partisans to
expel them upon their arrival in Israel and they were held for
several days at Bin Gureon airport to prevent them from carrying out
their humanitarian mission.
In
Belgium, tens of Belgian people who support the Arab causes
demonstrated before the Israeli embassy in Brussels in protest of
the continued Israeli attacks and acts of killing the Palestinians.
In
Moscow, the Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov stressed that the
deterioration of conditions in the Palestinian territories reached a
grave situation. He said that the mission of the international
community lies in preventing tension.
In
Beijing, a statement by the Chinese foreign ministry expressed
China's strong concern over the deteriorated conditions in the
Palestinian territories after Israel had declared the war against
the Palestinians.
However,
the U.S. abstained from commenting on the invasion of the Israeli
occupation forces to Ramallah and Al-Beira and storming Arafat's
headquarters.
A
spokesman for the Pakistani foreign ministry said that Islamabad
calls on the international community to call on Israel to
immediately halt its attack against the Palestinian authority,
stressing that these aggressive acts taken by Israel are considered
a grave threat to peace in the region. The spokesman noted that the
recent Israeli attacks should be condemned especially following the
Arab peace plan.
