MOSCOW, Nov 27 (News Agencies) - Russia has delivered the first batch of its modern T-90C tanks to India under the terms of a one-billion-dollar contract that will see India acquire some 310 tanks, ITAR-TASS reported on Monday.
Fifteen tanks have already been shipped from the Uralvagonzavod plant in central Russia, with another 26 vehicles to be delivered to India later in the week, the report cited factory directors as saying.
India in February signed the deal, the largest between the two regional allies in some 15 years, in a bid to boost its military potential with what is rated as one of the most efficient tanks in the world.
In all, Russia will ship 150 of the T-90C tanks while with another 160 will be assembled under contract in India, the report said.
More than 70 percent of India's defense hardware is of Soviet or Russian origin.
The tank agreement followed a three-billion-dollar contract between Moscow and New Delhi for the licensed production of 140 Sukhoi SU-30 MKI fighters by India over a 17-year period.
