U.S. Reacts to Capture of Kabul by Northern Alliance
The United States Tuesday called for troops of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance to maintain discipline after they entered Kabul, after ignoring pleas from U.S. officials to hold back on taking the capital.

Despite requests by the U.S. and Britain to hold off entering the capital until a broad based government can be established, the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance entered Kabul on Tuesday sparking celebrations at the end of five years of Taliban rule, news agencies reported.
Bodies of Foreign Journalists Transferred, Violence Reported in Mazar-i-Sharif
As the bodies of three foreign journalists killed in a Taliban ambush on Sunday left the country for Tajikistan, U.N. officials sounded an alarm Monday concerning the eruption of violence in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif since its capture by opposition forces.
