Kabul Buries Victims and Searches for Food
By Husbanullah Mutawakel
KABUL, Oct 9 (IslamOnline) - Two days after the U.S.-U.K. strikes on Afghanistan, Kabul's residents have started counting and burying their dead, as they begin looking for food and waiting for the heavy air strikes nighttime brings.
With the continuous U.S.-led air strikes on Afghanistan, people's lives have completely changed.
Tuesday's dawn attacks woke the people of Kabul from their sleep, and now have them awaiting death at any moment, especially at night.
IslamOnline's correspondent, situated in one Kabul's suburbs, heard the strong explosions that also hit Kabul's airport, a residential area in Wazirakbarkhan, a U.N. landmine search office in which four guards were killed, and the destruction of the radio and TV tower which resulted in the halting of transmission after the first air strike on 9.00 p.m. Monday.
The midnight strikes have caused psychological problems for children and women, who are now prone to nightmares and insomnia, as the people of Kabul start their day looking for casualties.
In addition to counting the dead and injured, Kabul's people now search daily for food and those who are better off are saving foodstuffs for the coming days, while the markets remain silent due to a lack of shoppers.
The recent attacks, which took place Monday night and Tuesday at dawn, resulted in the death of at least 20 Afghanis in Kabul alone.
Abdulhay Mutmaen, spokesperson for the Taliban, described the attacks as unsuccessful, saying the U.S. did not hit any of its intended targets, aside from causing destruction to some buildings at airports.
It is evident that the air strikes are aimed at trying to paralyze the Taliban's air weapons.
