Christian Man Names Baby After Osama Bin Laden

JAKARTA, Oct 4 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - Osama bin Laden, currently sought by the U.S. and its coalition force fighting terrorism, has a new namesake born in a Philippines city a week ago, a newspaper report said.

The baby, born of a Christian family, was named after Osama bin Laden, in support of the Saudi dissident's anti-American stance, the father of the baby, Nicolas Sivellejo, said.

Sivellejo, 27, a seasonal laborer, could not be dissuaded even by the registrar of his town not to name his son after his hero, bin Laden.

Mely Sivellejo delivered the baby on September 24th, 13 days after the terror attacks that left around 6,000 people dead or missing.

Sivellejo said his first-born was named after his hero for showing the world that, "America is not at all invincible."

Mely, 21, a housewife, delivered "bin Laden" with the help of a midwife, Beverly Dare. Baby bin Laden's mom could not object to her husband's wish to name their newborn after the U.S.'s public enemy number one.

The Sivellejos are devout Catholics, and Nicolas says he is strongly anti-American. He doesn't like the "American imperialists," he told newspapers in the Philippines.

He added he was bin Laden's "No. 1 fan" in the Philippines, and stated that the U.S. government is responsible for breeding "imperialist violence" around the world and producing the "worst terrorists", which he said are now turning against America because of its oppression against less powerful countries.

In Sivellejo's words, "America is the reason why a lot of people are suffering around the world."

He remains unfazed by critics, including neighbors and family members.

Sivellejo said it is only the American-controlled and -influenced media that have been picturing bin Laden - the suspected terrorist, and not the baby - as "the evil one."

Sivellejo's critics say he must learn to rein in his ire towards the U.S. so as not to be racist.

Another pro-bin Laden supporter in Malaysia almost named his baby boy, born last week, after bin Laden. He was planning to name his son Usamah, but cancelled his plans, fearing reprisals.

He said Usamah is the name of a companion of the Prophet of Islam (SAW) who, after the bereavement of the Muslim holy man, defeated a huge army of Romans in Europe.

Bin Laden, wanted in the U.S., is quickly becoming a household hero in Southeast Asia.
