U.S. Rejects Afghan Edict, Demands Taliban Turn Over Bin Laden
The United States Thursday bluntly rejected an edict by Islamic scholars in Kabul urging the ruling militia to ask Osama bin Laden to voluntarily leave the country, sticking to its demands that Afghanistan's Taliban hand him over.

Musharraf Appeals for National Unity, Says Islam not Target
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf Wednesday appealed for national unity against elements he said would try to exploit the crisis between the United States and neighboring Afghanistan to plunge the country into anarchy.

Doubts Emerge Over Identities of Hijackers in U.S. Attacks
U.S. officials are investigating whether some or all of the 19 hijackers on the four hijacked aircraft used in last week's terror attacks used stolen identities, possibly complicating efforts to link them to Osama bin Laden.


U.S. Deploys Forces, Rallies Coalition
The United States readied for war Wednesday, deploying military forces as President George W. Bush rallied a multinational coalition and told Afghanistan's ruling Taliban to hand over Osama bin Laden or face the consequences.
