Global Islamic Expo In Brunei
JAKARTA, May 15 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - Brunei Darussalam, a kingdom situated on the tip of Borneo Island, will host the First International Islamic Exposition, sources in the capital Bandar Seri Bagawan said today.
The same source said the oil rich nation is gearing up to receive more than 60,000 Muslims from all over the world to attend the exposition.
The event is organized by the government of Brunei, headed by Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah, considered to one of the richest men on earth.
The exposition will be held between August 1st and August 14th this year at the State Mufti's Office Complex in the capital city.
Authorities are planning to hold the exposition every two years, with emphasis on Islamic knowledge, information and skills, as well as to iron out misconceptions concerning Islam.
Organizers said the exposition would be divided into three main events:
1) An Islamic Heritage exhibition will showcase historical relics, such as 1,200-year-old Persian and Arabic manuscripts, flown in from Pakistan and India. Also on display will be a special collection of relics belonging to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah,
2) A trade fair comprising about 300 booths will sell goods and services relating to Islam, such as books, multimedia products and the latest computer hardware and software, and
3) A seminar on Islamic References In The Malay World will be held for the duration of the exposition. Here, international scholars and experts will present and discuss papers on such topics as the role of Islamic leaders.
Visitors to Brunei during the exhibition will also be able to visit the country's tourist attractions, including Jerudong Park, which has a state-of-the-art amusement center.
