WASHINGTON,
April 16 (IslamOnline) - The lone Jewish member of the Iranian Parliament, Maurice Mo'tamed, severely criticized radical Israeli Rabbi Ovadia Yusef on Sunday for bigoted statements against Arabs.
Mo'tamed described the rabbi's statements as "racist" and "spiteful", Iran's IRNA news agency reported.
"I regard it my duty to announce once more that the racist and spiteful statements of the Zionist officials in any rank or status against Palestinians and Muslim Arabs are detested by the dignified Jews of Iran and the world," Mo'tamed said.
These comments came in the light of statements made by Yusef, spiritual head of the Israeli rightwing Shas party, who last week described Arabs as "evil" and called for their elimination from the earth.
"We must not have mercy on them; they should get missiles and more missiles; they should be annihilated, those cursed evil people," Ovadia said.
"God will take deadly revenge against the Arabs, will wipe out their seed, will annihilate them and eliminate them from the face of earth," he fumed.
His utterings caused widespread condemnation and furor among Muslims and Arabs, causing a Jordanian businessman to announce a million dinar reward for Yusef's head.
