RSS Chief Calls For Indianization Of Islam

WASHINGTON, March 8 (IslamOnline) - The supreme leader of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) repeated a call for the "Indianization of Islam and Christianity." Speaking at a function in Hardwar, India, he said that Muslims and Christians must cut their links with Mecca and the Vatican.

"The time has come now when both Muslims and Christians who are living in India should "Indianize" their religions. They should sever their links with Mecca and the Pope and instead become swadeshi," he said.

He also said that Muslims and Christians must give "due respect" to the Hindu religion, even though they might not consider Rama and Krishna as "their god."

The leader of the Hindu militant organization, which masterminded the martyrdom of Babri Masjid, also condemned the Taliban's decision to destroy Buddha statues in Afghanistan.

"They [Taliban] are doing what the first Mughal emperor, Babar, has done in India .I don't see much difference between Babar and Taliban," he commented.

Babri Masjid was built by the Mir Baqi who was a commander in the forces of the first Mughal emperor of India, Zaheeruddin Babar.

Some historians say that no evidence exists that a temple was razed - as Hindu supporters believe - in order to construct the Babri Masjid or that Babar ever ordered the destruction of any temple.

Severely criticizing Sudarshan's statement, All-India Minority Front general secretary SMH Rizvi said that his advice was divisive and prejudicial to centuries ancient Indian traditions.

In a counter shot to the leader, Rizvi called on Sudarshan to first Indianize the dress of RSS activists before attempting to tell others to Indianize, as half-pant and a shirt were not proper Indian dress.
