WASHINGTON, March 5 (News Agencies) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who has had four heart attacks, checked himself into a Washington hospital Monday after suffering "two brief, mild episodes of chest discomfort," an aide said in a statement.
Cheney, who suffered his most recent heart attack in late November, "checked himself into George Washington hospital for a repeat cardiac catheterization after experiencing two brief, mild episodes of chest discomfort," said Mary Matalin.
"This is a non-emergency precautionary procedure," she said.
"An EKG [electro-cardiogram] obtained at the White House this afternoon was unchanged from one obtained last Thursday," she said.
Cheney, 60, suffered a slight heart attack in November and had a metal stent inserted in a coronary artery, to allow for normal blood flow.
He has since begun exercising and follows a strict diet, according to an interview he gave Sunday with the U.S. cable network CNN.
