Internet Poll Has Islamic Prophet "Millennium" Man

WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (IslamOnline) - In an unscientific survey being conducted by MSNBC, in cooperation with Encarta encyclopedia entitled "People who made the Millennium," a whopping 86% of 156243 votes have been cast for the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the Religion and Philosophy category, at the time of this writing.

Most of the voters have been speculated to be Muslims since various chain e-mails were sent by managers of Islamic e-mail lists urging Muslims to vote for Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Other religious luminaries received lesser votes, including, eight percent for Isa (Jesus), with both Mussa (Moses) and Malcolm X receiving 0% of the votes.

An email calling on Muslims to vote for Prophet Muhammad read, "You would be glad to learn that our Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is at the top of the list as ever...let's keep him at his rightful place forever."

But not all Muslims were appreciative of such efforts. In response to an email calling Muslims to vote, one reader responded, "I think that Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) does not require vote from people like us to prove that he is the best as far as mankind is concerned. He is a prophet (infact a rasool) and is far far above anybody can reach...Please desist from such kind of competitions for these kind of competitions are for normal people and not prophet Mohammed (PBUH)."

Another reader wrote, "Believe me it was so painfull when I was reading this Forwarded message from Brother [****], to comparatively vote our Beloved Prophet Mohammed [PBUH] with Others. My message to all my Dear brothers is 'Our Beloved Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is uncomparable with any one in this world.'"

In the Arts and Letters category of the survey, Omar Khayyam came in third with 12% of the vote, after Shakespeare with 38% and Leonardo da Vinci with 21%. Muhammad Ali topped the Sports category with 36%.

Note: At the time of this writing, MSNBC seems to have shut down the Religion and Philosophy category poll, while other polls in other categories are still polling.
