OIC
Summit Resolutions Below Expectations
by Mohamad Abd al-Ati
DOHA (IslamOnline) - Qatari Foreign
Minister Hamad bin Jassim said that the resolutions brought forward at the
Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) summit, which concluded its sessions
late Monday night, fell below the expectations of Muslims, and were not enough
to force Israel and the U.S. to change their positions regarding the massacre
Palestinian civilians.
He said that Muslim nations did not reach
the level of cooperation and mobilization needed to deter Israel, a state not
deterred by any resolutions of the international community or the United
Nations, from killing Arab and Muslim children.
“The Israeli leaders should know that our
patience has an end,” he said, and called upon U.S. officials to exert more
pressure on Israelis and not Palestinians.
Bin Jassim also expressed optimism
concerning the slight improvement in Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations, and said that 80%
of the time he spent working to resolve the tension between the two countries
was dedicated to getting their positions and views to come closer together, but
said that the two delegations did not meet directly.
When asked
whether the summit has decided to increase financial support to the Jerusalem
fund and the al-Aqsa fund, which the latest Arab League summit agreed to
establish, from $1 billion to $2 billion, bin Jassim said that the OIC summit
did not discuss this issue.
