Women Organizations Support Gore’s Position In Florida Recount

WASHINGTON (IslamOnline) - The latest election analyses declare that more women voted for Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore than for Republican George W. Bush, and that more women are asking him to remain steadfast in his position requesting a recount of the votes in Florida.

The National Organization for Women (NOW), considered the largest feminist organization in the U.S., declared support for Gore’s position following the events Tuesday night in Florida.

“Women and people of color fought too hard for to long to have their right to vote compromised by an inept process,” said NOW’s President Patricia Ireland.

Ireland said that reports of mishaps and harassment at the polls tainted the democratic voting process in the country and called for a thorough investigation of incidents surrounding the affair.

The organization has set up a hotline for women who feel they could not properly execute their constitutional rights in the voting process.

Meanwhile, analyzing the election results nationally has shown that 54% of U.S. women voted for Gore while 43% voted for Bush. In almost a complete reversal, men opted for Bush 53% to Gore’s 42%.

The 22-point percentage difference between men and women voters is the highest differential in the history of U.S. elections, and has been viewed by some as the American people elected one president for men and another for women.
