by Mohamad Abd ElAti
DOHA (IslamOnline) - Renowned Muslim alim, Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi, appealed to Muslim leaders convening in Qatar on Sunday to set aside their differences and attend the conference.
He also called on the OIC to make the international conference an annual event instead of one held every three years.
Leading the Friday prayer, al-Qaradawi called on the Bahrain’s leaders not to let their tensions with Qatar preside over the needs of the current crisis and join the meeting.
Bahrain announced it was boycotting the Conference because of a border dispute over the Gulf islands of Hawar with Qatar, the country currently heading the OIC and hosting the Islamic gathering
In the prayer sermon, which was attended by several Islamic countries’ Foreign Ministers and delegates, al-Qaradawi called for clear support for Muslim rights in Kashmir and that Muslim leaders should not favor India in their relations over the rights of Muslim there.
The Islamic cleric said that the OIC summit should act according to the aspirations of Muslim nations, and asked Muslim peoples to take pride in their cultural heritage and not feel inferior to Western cultural values.
He said that any peace settlement that would lead to renouncing Islamic rights in Palestine is not Islamically lawful, since these sites not only belong to Palestinians, but the entire Islamic world as well.
Al-Qaradawi also repeated his fatwa on the importance of boycotting Israeli products and those of the American companies sympathizing with Israel’s aggression.
