Iran Calls For Muslim Unity

by Abd al-Ati Mohamad

Doha (IslamOnline) - Mohamad Reza Khatami, head of the Iranian Parliament, called upon the delegations of the Islamic countries to do their utmost effort to regain the Islamic holy sites in the occupied territories, saying that political differences between Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) members was the reason for 33 years of occupation of the Islamic sites.

He said that further measures should be taken to make up for the shortcomings of the Arab League summit that was held in Cairo last month, adding that almost one billion Muslims worldwide are waiting for the Doha Summit to provide real measures that support the Palestinian uprising.

Khatami told reporters that Muslim leaders should facilitate the OIC’s role to further serve the hopes of the Muslim world and to regain Jerusalem and protect its holy sites, which can only happen if Muslim countries and peoples unify in their efforts and resolve their differences.

It is important to “re-evaluate the political aspirations of the Muslim masses who have been active in supporting the current uprising,” said Khatami, whose home country has headed the OIC for the past three years.
