Lebanese Hurl Stones, Israelis Fire Shots At Borders
KFAR KILA, Lebanon (AFP) - About 300 student followers of the Lebanese Shiite fundamentalist Hezbollah hurled stones Friday on an Israeli post behind the borders in southern Lebanon.
The protestors, carrying Lebanese, Palestinian and Hezbollah flags, gathered at the Fatima Gate border point, shouted slogans backing the Palestinian Intifada uprising against Israel.
Many stomped their feet on U.S. and Israeli flags before throwing stones on an Israeli army position on the other side of the border, forcing three soldiers to run away from the post, he said.
Moments later, the soldiers were replaced by three other servicemen, he said.
At the Hassan Gate, near the village of Kfarshouba farther to the east, Israeli soldiers fired into the air twice when a crew from the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) approached the fence where Israeli photographers had gathered on the other side, LBC said.
On Sunday, the Israeli army fired shots without inflicting casualties when about a hundred Hezbollah followers gathered at Fatima Gate, which has been a site of pilgrimage since the Israeli pullout from southern Lebanon in May.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the border, Israeli police engineers examined a helium-filled balloon carrying a Hezbollah flag which landed near the town of Kiryat Shmona.
