US Troops Leave Iraq Cities

Iraqi forces assumed formal control of Baghdad and other cities on Tuesday, June 30, as American troops handed over security in urban areas, six years after US-led coalition forces invaded the oil-rich Arab country. Despite the formal pullback, some US troops will remain in cities to train and advise Iraqi forces. The US military is to continue combat operations in rural areas and near the border with the permission of the Iraqi government. (Reuters photos)
