Iraqi forces assumed formal control of Baghdad and other cities on Tuesday, June 30, as American troops handed over security in urban areas, six years after US-led coalition forces invaded the oil-rich Arab country. Despite the formal pullback, some US troops will remain in cities to train and advise Iraqi forces.
