AU says plans to Extend Forces in Darfur
The African Union plans to send more troops into Sudan to reinforce its extended
peacekeeping mission in war-ravaged Darfur, an AU spokesman, Noureddine Mezni, said on Sunday, September 24, 2006. The African Union's mandate in Darfur had been set to expire on Sept. 30 and the pan-African body had said it could not continue beyond October because it was out of money and needed more equipment. The Sudanese government has refused the deployment of UN Troops into Darfur
