Shiites Nominate Jaafari for Iraq’s Premiership 
Iraqi interim Vice President Ibrahim Jaafari was nominated by the United Iraqi Alliance, that swept the January 30 election, as its candidate for the country's premiership, Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Jaafari, the head of the Dawa Party, had faced competition from inside the alliance from former exile Ahmad Chalabi, once favoured by the Pentagon.
