84 Thai Muslims Suffocated to Death
At least 78 people died while in detention in southern Thailand Monday, October 25, 2004. Clashes erupted when Thai police and army used water cannons, tear gas canisters and reportedly live ammunition to break a demonstration by Muslims to protest the arrest of 6 Muslims. Six people already confirmed killed in Monday's violence. Thai pathologist told a news conference that she and a team of doctors found after conducting autopsies that most of the dead had perished from suffocation.
